Plenty of research and experience support the notion that the consumption of animal products (meat, fish, dairy products, eggs) and fats/oils negatively affects the function of our hormones and the concentration of prostaglandins which affects the function of the ovaries, and overall diets rich in fats/oils increase estrogen levels. A diet rich in meat and animal proteins increases the concentration of estrogen in the blood, which supports the development and persistence of endometriosis.
Prostaglandin is a group of unsaturated fatty acids which is produced by all tissues of the body under certain stimuli. They play a role in the regression of the corpus luteum, the function of the platelets, the natural defense against ulcers and the induction of inflammation, as well as sexual function, uterine contractions, the onset of labor, and dilatation of the cervix.
Contractions, cramps and painful menstruation are also caused by prostaglandins, which are produced in the inner layer of the uterus induced by estrogen!
Prostaglandin, by circulating in the blood stream, can affect every part of the body. When prostaglandin is produced in greater quantities, the intensity of cramps is also greater. In many cases, this is responsible for the occurrence of cramps and pain associated with endometriosis.
The pituitary gland produces the follicle-stimulating hormone, which causes one of the follicles to develop in the ovaries. This maturing follicle then produces estrogen. Follicle rupture and the release of an egg from the follicle are also caused by the progesterone produced by the pituitary gland. Estrogen is produced primarily in the ovaries, to a lesser extent in the corpus luteum, and to an even lesser extent by the cells of the liver, adrenal glands, and breasts.
“When we experience constant or frequent stress, eat unhealthy food, and do not exercise, the functioning of these organs and hormones are negatively affected, and estrogen and progesterone levels become unbalanced.”
In addition to negatively affecting hormone function, excessive intake of animal proteins and fats/oils, inhibits calcium utilization, contributing to osteoporosis later in life around the time of menopause.
Estrogen is also stored in fat cells, so estrogen dominance often occurs in overweight or overfed individuals.
“Estrogen dominance does not necessarily mean an excess of estrogen, but that there isn’t enough progesterone in our body to counteract the estrogen.”
Besides too much stress, lack of exercise and improper nutrition, the imbalance of estrogen – progesterone levels can also be caused by the predominance of harmful xenoestrogens and an insufficiency of beneficial phytoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are chemical compounds that enter our body and disrupt hormone balance by binding to cell receptors, are stored in body fat and are excreted very slowly, but can be disposed of with proper diet and exercise.
“A plant-rich diet helps cleanse the body of harmful substances and deposits, increases the levels of vitamins, folic acid, carotenoids and other beneficial micronutrients and minerals that can help prevent harmful cell division, inhibit the development of diseases, help phytoestrogens and assist in recovery from illness.”
Hormonal and other women’s diseases, as well as endometriosis are particularly prevalent among women following a western diet.
This is due to the regular and excessive consumption of animal products (meat, fish, milk, eggs), fats and oils, trans fats, preservatives, flavor enhancers and processed foods.
“The epidemic-like spread of chronic diseases are caused by our eating habits”
This is well supported by the rapid decline in the health of people living in a westernizing country. This is due to the fact that our diet has dramatically shifted towards the consumption of animal products and processed foods.
T. Colin Campbell, Ph. D., in his book titled ”The China Study”, reports the results of 27 years of scientific research in several countries since 1970 on the harmful effects of the consumption of animal products on health.
China is a prime example of the chronic diseases (obesity, diabetes, hormonal problems, cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc.) associated with a shift away from a traditionally plant-based diet.
“In one of the world’s largest biomedical research and nationwide survey, 880 million people were studied, and the results clearly show that the development and persistence of the diseases studied are directly proportional to the amount and frequency of consumption of animal products.”
The diseases studied were cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hormonal diseases and infertility. Not only in adults but also in children. On the other hand, among those who consume as much pure plant based food as possible, the incidence of disease is reduced in direct proportion, and with a healthy 100% plant-based diet, pre-existing diseases can be reversed in most cases.
People on an unhealthy plant-based diet, rich in processed grains, preservatives, flavor enhancers, processed sugars, refined carbohydrates and oils, are also exposed to risk factors that can cause diseases in the long term, although to a lesser extent compared to ones consuming animal products.
Fortunately, most diseases can be avoided and prevented with a proper and healthy plant-based diet (only psychological factors can interfere).

Further studies on consumption of plant vs animal derived products
The American Heart Association studied the lifestyle and health, including arterial health, of 250 sets of twins over several years, and the results showed that diet and lifestyle differences were far outweighing genetic factors. So even if both parents or grandparents were affected by a disease, it doesn’t mean you have to be! You simply have the chance if you follow the same lifestyle as them.

Dr Onish’s study, GEMINAL, studied cancer patients using a 3-month intensive lifestyle change, where patients followed a whole-food plant-based diet. During this time, the activity of disease-preventing genes (500 different genes) was increased and genes supporting harmful processes were greatly reduced.
Studies conducted by Dr McDougall, an American physician, in populations of women with endometriosis show that the risk of developing endometriosis is much higher with red meat and beef consumption and much lower with high consumption of vegetables and fruits.”
A similar correlation has been found between nutrition and other diseases of the female reproductive organs, including uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and endometrial and ovarian cancers, other hormonal problems, early menopause and so on.
“It is a well-established fact that a “rich” Western diet alters female hormones, their function and as a result, the development of hormone-dependent diseases in the uterus, ovaries, vagina and breasts.”
Environmental, chemical and other kinds of toxins, a lack of fiber in meals (mainly from raw vegetables and leaves), excessive consumption of oil and fat, the estrogens in cow milk, lack of phytoestrogens and the resulting obesity are just some of the effects that nutrition can cause that can have a negative effect on hormones
When a woman changes her eating habits and follows a low-fat, plant-based diet, reproductive hormones begin to work properly and symptoms such as severe menstrual bleeding, fibrocystic breast disease, PMS, cramps, spotting and irregular bleeding cycles may be relieved or eliminated. Furthermore, the risk of health problems such as breast and uterine cancer and osteoporosis is significantly reduced.

According to a study published in 2010, a diet high in trans fats increases the risk of endometriosis by 48%, and if more animal fat is consumed in addition, we can only wait before disaster strikes. Therefore, it is recommended to eliminate hydrogenated fats from our diets (all vegetable oils and fats, animal fats, margarine, butter, buttercreams, etc.) and all ready-made products containing these types of fats (biscuits, chocolate, crisps, other snacks, cereals, plus oily seeds and oily fruit, etc.) or made with these fats (e.g. French fries, fried foods, frozen and semi-prepared products). According to the study, consumption of animal fats increases the risk of endometriosis (by 20%), and the consumption of palmitic acid in animal products (meat, eggs, dairy products) also increases the risk.
Reducing the amount of oils and fats you consume (preferably by eliminating them completely from your diet) can greatly affect your health.
Simplified:
The more milk, eggs, meat and fish we consume, especially in higher proportions, as well as fats and oils (vegetable or animal), the sicker we become, the worse we get, the more pain we may feel, the greater pains can become and the more we support the development and spread of disease. Furthermore, the production of prostaglandins, which play a role in reducing inflammation, is affected by refined oils, white flour, white sugar, processed sugars, processed foods, alcohol, meat, dairy products, eggs, caffeinated beverages and stress.
As long as we do not consume the products listed above and obtain the necessary fats from small amounts of seeds (nuts, almonds, poppy seeds, chia seed, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.), we can experience a steady reduction, and finally elimination, of inflammation and an improvement to condition, thus taking one step towards our healing.
